Amex Platinum Card – $300 Annual Lululemon Credit

Onetime activation required to enable this credit.

Offer

Activate this benefit one time here.

  • American Express Platinum Card offers up to $300 annually in statement credits for purchases at Lululemon.
  • This credit is broken down into $75 per calendar quarter

Details

  • Enrollment is required: You must activate the benefit in your Amex dashboard before making a purchase. Once enrolled, it stays active for the life of the card.
  • Valid Locations: The credit works at Lululemon stores and online at lululemon.com within the U.S.
  • Exclusions: It does not work at Lululemon Outlets or international stores. E-gift cards (which are processed by Cashstar) will not trigger the credit.
  • Timing matters: For online orders near the end of a quarter, allow a few days for the item to ship, as the charge might not complete immediately. In-store purchases are safe until the last day of the quarter.
  • Tracking: Amex provides a tracker in the app/website where you can see your progress toward the $75 quarterly limit.

Strategy

To extract maximum value without spending unnecessary cash, here are some options:

Will recommend creating free Lululemon account as that give you ability to return final sale items.

  • In-Store Physical Gift Cards: While officially excluded in the terms, buying physical gift cards in-store consistently triggers the credit.
    • Some stores will happily sell a custom $75 gift card. While others only allow $50 or $100 denominations (forcing you to buy two $50 cards and eat $25 out of pocket).
    • Cashier enforcement varies heavily by location.
    • Recent policy updates prohibit splitting a single gift card purchase across multiple credit cards.
  • Return Stacking: If you want an expensive item (e.g., a $150 shoes), buy a $75 item in Quarter 1. Return it in Quarter 2 without the original Amex card present, and request store credit on a physical Lululemon gift card. Combine that $75 store credit with your active Quarter 2 Amex Platinum credit to buy the $150 item.
  • Payment Splitting: In-store cashiers can easily split transactions across multiple cards (useful if you have multiple Amex Platinum).
  • Final Sale: Make sure you sign up for a free Lululemon account. Having an account allows you to return “We Made Too Much” (Final Sale) items for store credit.
  • Six Credit Application Strategy: If you apply for the Platinum card in mid-December (or towards end of any quarter), you can use this credit 6 times. You will capture Q4 of Year 1 ($75), Q1-Q4 of Year 2 ($300), and Q1 of Year 3 ($75) before having to close or downgrade the card to avoid the second annual fee. This yields $450 in Lululemon credits for a single annual fee.

Stacking Opportunities:

  • Shopping Portals: Always click through a shopping portal (like Rakuten) before buying online. Rakuten frequently offers 10x (or even up to 15x) Membership Rewards points on Lululemon purchases.
  • Amex/Chase Offers: Keep an eye out for targeted Amex or Chase Offers for Lululemon. You can often go into a physical store and ask the cashier to split the payment—putting $75 on your Platinum card and the remainder on a card with a targeted offer.
  • Discounts: Lululemon offers a 15% discount for signing up for emails (first-time online orders) on full price item. They also offer 15% (sometimes 25%) discounts for military personnel and first responders, as well as a “Sweat Collective” program (25% off) for fitness professionals.

Our Verdict

This $300 credit is a solid perk for those who already shop at Lululemon, but it can be tricky to maximize without spending extra unless you are looking at final sale items. Full price items are very expensive.
